Dunkirk Studios' romantic short (42 min), Boundaries of Attraction, has been accepted into IndieFest USA, and has been nominated for best short film! Director Jamie Fessenden's previous works have been horror films, notably The Sacrifice and its sequel The Resurrection (not yet released). Although Dunkirk Studios works on a shoestring (no-budget, not low-budget) with volunteer actors, these micro-indy film have real plots of surprising depth, and Fessenden's score is truly professional.
Seacoast musician Poor Howard is back with a new album of original and classic Blues songs. Visit Poor Howard's website to hear sound samples. But don't miss the chance to hear him in person! You've got to hear what he can do on a 12-string. And if that isn't enough, Howard's often offbeat humor and stage presence makes his live performances something you really won't want to miss.
Writer Mark Jacobson of New York City, while not exactly local to the Great Works area, is a good friend and a fantastic writer. The Universal Studios film American Gangster is based on Marks' writings about gangster Frank Lucas. Check out Mark's other writings, listed on his website!
The Grand Design tells the true story of a group of Scots-Irish immigrants who, in 1741, were callously abandoned on Grand Manan Island with winter approaching. Most died, but some were rescued in part because of the actions of the Passamaquoddy people. Julia Lane researched the story and wrote the music. Griff Braley, of Heartwood Theatre, directed the World Premiere full-stage adaptation of the story. Versions ranging from "Reader's Theatre" to a full theatrical version have been performed from Grand Manan down to North Carolina, and most recently in Damariscotta as part of Wabanaki Days.

The Violin: Its History and Making is the life's work of Master Violinmaker Karl Roy, retired director of the Mittenwald School of Violinmaking in Germany and founder of the Violinmaking Program at the Violin Craftsmanship Institute in New Hampshire. Local violinmaker Claire Curtis assisted him, and with Alvin Tom King edited the book. No other book compares with this one; it is destined to be the new classic work in the field.
